However, I know a lot of folks who would rather not spend a single second of their vacation in their cabin—even if it is outside on a private balcony.

Disney Fantasy Dining and Lounges
Oftentimes, Disney Cruise Line ships will only be stopped at Castaway Cay for around 5 to 6 hours. For this reason, I recommend making a priority list of the things that are most important for you to do and see while on Castaway Cay. We decided to bring some subtle pirate-themed items we already had, and this was a fun way to get into character and embrace the fun of this themed evening. Guests are also gifted a complimentary themed bandana to make the evening extra pirate-like. Additional things to consider booking before a Disney cruise sailing are beverage-tasting seminars, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Pirates League sessions, Royal Court Royal Tea, and Senses Spa appointments.
There is a small section for smokers up there, however, most of the area is smoke free and there are plenty of options for seating. Another option for a quick meal can be found at Flo’s Cafe on the Disney Fantasy. This trio of counter-service restaurants offers up simple pizzas, salads, wraps, fruit, burgers, and fries. As (almost) all of your Disney Cruise food is included in your cruise, these mini counter service restaurants are a great option if you’re looking for a snack between meals.
To avoid the crowds and long lines, I recommend riding these water slides in the late afternoon, right before dinner time. Similar to the adult-only pool areas, the exciting AquaDuck water slide that can be found onboard Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream can get quite busy during the middle of the afternoon. While it is a good time to come see everything available to kids in the children’s club, I recommend showing up to the open house as soon as it starts in order to avoid the crowds. They have dedicated clubs for the very youngest cruisers to teenagers.
Be sure to try the black truffle pasta purseittes, a personal favorite of mine (and of many other repeat cruisers). You’ll also find butternut squash soup, wild mushroom risotto, polenta cake with tomatoes and mushroom, a lemon-thyme marinated chicken dish, beef tenderloin, and much more. Dinner at these three restaurants is included in the cost of your Disney Cruise.

Inside staterooms onboard, the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream offer something called a Magical Porthole with real-time views of the water and waves outside as well as fun appearances from Disney characters. If you and your family are fine with a digital window, these rooms are the cheapest onboard, while still offering all the amenities of the outside staterooms. Room service is always available – 24-hour a day (except for disembarkation day). Then, on your Castaway Cay day, you can eat at one of the two family BBQ restaurants, or the adult-only BBQ restaurant at Serenity Bay.
Remy also offers a champagne brunch, a 5-course dessert menu, and Petites Assiettes de Remy featuring small plates and fine wine (only available on the first night of your cruise). The Disney Fantasy offers exclusive dining opportunities to fulfill those wishes. These wearable accessories also function as a stateroom keycard and a form of payment onboard Disney Cruise Line ships. During our sailing, we bought and wore Magic Bands to test them out.
Running for about 1 hour and shown on the Walt Disney Theater Stage, guests can see these shows opposite their dinner seating time. Expert performers, surprising visual effects, and a beautiful set design made this show worth the watch. The Oceaneer Club offers up play areas with slides, games, crafts, and more. On the Disney Fantasy the Oceaneer Club includes magical “lands” to explore that inform the activities throughout the cruise. Shown daily on your stateroom television, you can see your Cruise Director and Assistant Director review the day’s happenings, tips, and more in this 15-minute show.

Dinner at this Parisian themed restaurant is made up of multiple tasting courses.
Each travel party onboard Disney ships will be assigned a specific dining time and location for dinner each night. Guests can choose either the earlier dining time or the later dining time at the time of their cruise booking. Something important to know about Disney Cruise Line is that besides the adult-exclusive specialty restaurants, there is very little private dining. For example, on our Disney fantasy sailing, we initially sat with two other couples traveling together who were about our same age. After guests have made the full payment for their Disney cruise, their booking window will open. The booking window is when guests can make reservations at the specialty dining restaurants.
However, I do think they are an extra purchase, not something that is essential to your Disney cruise. My main takeaway was that these accessories are not necessary for all guests. Magic Bands are more about the wearable accessory aspect and not necessarily the technology or functionality. I was pleasantly surprised by just how many unique things guests can see and do. We did a lot of research before our visit to ensure that we would make the most out of our day.

The Fantasy’s sister ship, Disney Dream, has the same layout, and size, while the Disney Wish Cruise Ship is slightly bigger. District Lounge, a lively bar located on Deck 4, Aft in The District area aboard the Disney Dream, is an intimate nighttime spot with an attractive modern design. We saw massive Ravens, Black Oystercatchers, Semi-Palmated Plovers, and several American Bald Eagles in Juneau before we even set foot on the Admiralty Dream. It was an invigorating way to wind down our 8-day adventure with Alaskan Dream Cruises.
