What kind of breakfast is served at Hotel MeraPrime Gold Lisboa?

Our most memorable part of our stay at the Downtown Proper was the service and hospitality. The staff were all very friendly, professional and hospitable. In addition, it was the little details that really mattered. All the bathrooms were equipped with Aesop products, there were complimentary fresh green and red juices in the fitness area and eucalyptus cooling towels, and the decor on the main level really embodied the 'so cal' modern vibe. Rooms were on the smaller side, but very comfortable. Bathrooms were equipped with Aesop products, lighting was warm and indirect, the bed was comfortable and it was nice to be able to open the window for some fresh LA air.

What is the intelligent design movement?

intelligent design vs evolution

The flatfish larvae have symmetrical bodies with an eye on each side. The body begins to tilt, and the eye on the one side begins to wander over to the other side. Finally, the body has changed so much that the left side has become a white underside and the right side has become a darker upper side—or vice versa.

How the courts have historically handled the teaching of evolution

Such machine learning algorithms are a well-understood part of artificial intelligence. In a neural network, learning involves adjusting the connections between neurons (stronger or weaker) in the direction that maximises rewards. With simple methods like this it is possible to get neural networks to not just solve problems, but to get better at solving problems over time. The ancients asked sophisticated questions about the world in which they lived. If their questions seem primitive today, it is only in the hindsight of modern science. Already at age four, my grandson knows that if he lets go of his ball, it will fall.

Fine-tuned universe

"We have the fossils showing how it happened," Prothero said. "Anyone who makes that argument is flat out lying about the fossil record." Creationism is typically based on a literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis in the Bible. Supporters of Intelligent Design argue that either God created the conditions for evolution or point to patterns occuring in nature as evidence that the universe is not random but created by an intelligent being. Original ArticleWhen Charles Darwin published his theory of evolution in 1859, most scientists were skeptical and said the theory lacked sufficient evidence.

Status outside the United States

intelligent design vs evolution

Lewis is insightful about this congruence and incorporates it into his articulation of the Christian vision. In doing this, he is clearly a Christian Theistic Evolutionist, or an Evolutionary Christian Theist. So, what does Lewis say God is up to in this evolutionary universe? Please do not think that one of these views [i.e., either Naturalism or Supernaturalism] was held a long time ago and that the other has gradually taken its place.

What is the evidence for intelligent design?

In 2005 new DNA evidence and research at the Broad Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University further validated the theory of evolution. Scientists there were able to determine that there is only a 4 percent difference between human and chimpanzee DNA. This new evidence is the latest of many discoveries in recent years in genetics, biochemistry, geology and paleontology that lend further credence to the theory of evolution. I don't know how long the creator took, but I think there was a process of creation, and the evolution that has occurred has occurred within the boundaries originally set.

Critics of intelligent design argue that the creationist hypothesis is not testable i.e., the existence of God cannot be proved. Although science cannot test issues of faith, scientific studies have disproved many elements of Creationism, including the age of the Earth, its geological history, and the relationships of living organisms. Anthropology, geology and planetary science reveal that the Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old, disputing Creationist claims that the Earth was created 6000 years ago.

Beyond science

The Second Law actually states that the total entropy of a closed system (one that no energy or matter leaves or enters) cannot decrease. Entropy is a physical concept often casually described as disorder, but it differs significantly from the conversational use of the word. The Second Law of Thermodynamics says that systems must become more disordered over time. Living cells therefore could not have evolved from inanimate chemicals, and multicellular life could not have evolved from protozoa.

What’s all the fuss about? Evolution, intelligent design and science education

By purchasing a subscription you are helping to ensure the future of impactful stories about the discoveries and ideas shaping our world today. I thought my job is to be the sharp edge, to use my academic credentials and legal abilities to get some hearing for the proposition that there really is something fundamentally wrong with the Darwinian story. It's not just a problem of detail, but rather a fundamental problem that the mechanism has no creative power. Well, the alternative is not well developed, so I would prefer to say that, as far as I'm concerned, the alternative is we don't really know what happened. But if non-intelligence couldn't do the whole job, then intelligence had to be involved in some way.

Answers to Creationist Nonsense

Behe emphasizes that it is not complexity that is the basis for his claims about ID. Rather, it is a particular type of complexity which he calls “irreducible complexity.” Behe categorically agrees that extremely complex structures can evolve gradually according to the standard Darwinian mechanism for evolution, but not when irreducible complexity is involved. Moreover, a system can be quite simple in the sense implied by the argument from design, and still be irreducibly complex in the sense that Behe means. Nelson said he disagreed with those who pressure schools to teach intelligent design alongside the theory of evolution.

I went to Sunday School because in those days mothers thought that was a good thing for their children on Sunday morning, and [on the way my mother] dropped my father off at the golf course. I grew up from that learning that when you got old enough so that your mother couldn't tell you what to do anymore, what you did was you played golf on Sunday morning. Now, naturalism was most flamboyantly stated in the Cosmos series by Carl Sagan, which I remember watching many years ago.

Professor Sætre by no means believes that evolution is a miserable process. For example, it has given the world wonderful and varied creatures such as the tiger, the blue whale, and the finches on the Galapagos Islands. His point is instead that evolution has no foresight or intelligence; there is no plan that can guide the direction of evolution.

Interestingly, however, none of these lines of reasoning are really design-type arguments—and we shall explore the reasons for this in my next post. Lewis is saying here that Christian faith has intellectual content that can effectively engage the best information from all fields of knowledge as well as opposing points of view. This article explores how Lewis relates historic, orthodox belief—or, “mere Christianity”—to the debate between Evolution and intelligent design, and then shows how he incorporates these subjects into his Trinitarian vision of reality. Returning to the eye of the octopus, Professor Sætre argues that an intelligent designer would probably have settled for solving the same problem once. But evolution does not have a plan, and that is why there are a lot of different eyes out there.

Thus, science welcomes the possibility of evolution resulting from forces beyond natural selection. Yet those forces must be natural; they cannot be attributed to the actions of mysterious creative intelligences whose existence, in scientific terms, is unproved. The Discovery Institute of Seattle supports challenging the theory of evolution.

This whole Darwinian story, it seems to me, has been very much oversold. And everybody is told that it's absolutely certain and certainly true, and because it's called science it has been proved again and again by absolutely unquestionable procedures. It is an imaginative story that has been spun on the basis of very little evidence. My logical reaction to that is that's perfectly accurate if you assume that the evolutionary change of this enormous amount actually occurs. Then you can give a satisfactory explanation for why we don't see it. But there is another possible explanation for why we don't see it.

An amazing fossil creature from 375 million years ago named Tiktaalik embodies the predicted and long-sought transition of certain fishes to life on land. Whales had four-legged ancestors that walked on land, and creatures known as Ambulocetus and Rodhocetus helped to make that transition. Fossil seashells trace the evolution of various mollusks through millions of years.

Indeed, in their eyes, the inability to prove that God exists might even cast doubt on His existence. Darwin was ridiculed in his time for suggesting that small land animals could have transformed into modern whales, like the young sperm whale seen above in the waters off the Caribbean island of Dominica. Whales "have a long generation time, and they don't have huge populations. They're like the worst-case scenario for trying to evolve structures rapidly," Luskin said. "To fix all the mutations needed to convert a little land mammal into a fully functional whale [in ten million years]--mathematically that's totally not possible." Evolutionists Argue ... But paleontologists have since shown that Darwin's guess wasn't that far from the truth. In the late 1970s scientists began unearthing fossils of "archaic" whales that were initially mostly terrestrial but that became more aquatic over time.

It extends the classic French manicure just a bit for some added visual interest, and looks great whether you leave the rest of your nail nude or add in another color. A nail design is just a lot more stylish when it’s in black and white, right?? Totally love these black and white nails with the outline below the tips. Once you have the technique for French tips down, all you need is a dotting tool for this intricate-looking manicure.

Heart French Tips

This look strikes the perfect balance of classic and modern, and we couldn't be more in love with the result. A ring finger scattered with hearts is the perfect way to play up a classic French manicure. Take, for example, this glossy French with a white, heart-cutout accent nail, which adds a sweet edge to an otherwise basic manicure. The shimmering tips on these nails complement modern French manicures without adding too much sophistication. This nail art lets you stay true to your minimalist style while still keeping up with the latest French manicure trends.

Blooming Tips

Your heart nail art will look out of this world if you utilize some airbrushing. The base of this manicure mixes ombré colors with a shimmer finish, resulting in a hypnotic piece of art your friends won't be able to stop admiring. A brighter take on the French tip manicure, these nails have a beautiful arc of bright blue across a transparent nail base.

Mettalic Hearts

This elegant French tip nail design showcases varying shades of pink on each fingertip, giving it a charming look. The short square nails, bathed in a soft pink hue, feature thin French tips and an orange color gradient, with each nail cascading from dark orange to light. Looking for a two-tone French tip nail design with a fun twist?

Maybe you're a woo-woo chick who's constantly updating her collection of crystals and geodes. Make your French nails match your passion for shiny minerals when you make them look like geodes. Pick a few shades in the same color family, and paint gold glitter lines in between them (as in the photo above) to achieve this geode-inspired look. If you're looking for a fall French manicure idea and only coming up with soft neutral colors, it may be time to expand your horizons a bit. Consider opting for moody, offbeat seasonal colors instead.

White Hearts Manicure

And when you combine the hue with the velvet trend and the tiniest little floating hearts, you have a subtle mani to wear well beyond Valentine's Day. From bright colors to nail art accessories, read on to discover a collection of nail art ideas that will do justice to this iconic technique. Our international creative team of nail artists, estheticians, and blow dry specialists from different countries perform a vast array of services. Whether you prefer a classic look or want to experiment with bold and playful designs, pink French tips provide endless possibilities to recreate.

Go for floral French tips

The raised design takes the animal print nail art trend to a whole new level. This is another way you can rock the star burst nail trend. A soft pink french tip with a pink base is such a cute way to wear the french nail design. I’m absolutely obsessed with the double line nail art when it comes to french tips. This is when you have your classic frenchie and then add another line just below it.

Incorporate some polka dots

This intricate design adds an artistic touch to the nails. These almond-shaped nails are a dazzling display with their sheer nude base with glittering teal tips and half-moons near the cuticles. The sparkling finish captures the light beautifully, resembling the shimmering surface of a tropical ocean. These almond-shaped nails feature a textured design that resembles soft brushstrokes in warm autumnal tones. The varied shades of brown, beige, and yellow over a translucent base create a cozy yet sophisticated look. These almond nails have a sheer ombre pink base and a traditional white French tip.

Pink Metallic Gloss French tip

Get groovy with long pale-peach square nails jazzed up in fabulously funky tie-dyed French tips that showcase every color of the rainbow. Leopard prints, fruits, flowers — you can have it all on your nails! If you want to go big on prints, it’s another idea to try for colored French tip nails. You have tons of options to match your fashion taste now with a French manicure with colored tips. For something extra eye-catching (and somewhat dizzying), why not opt for an optical illusion French set like the one above?

Micro French nails are Kendall Jenner’s current signature mani, making these cherry mocha-colored mini tips supermodel-approved. The Skittles nail trend uses a different polish color on every single tip — and it looks even cuter with French tips and pale polish. Whether or not you’re a coffee lover, these caramel latte-inspired ombré nails are a total vibe. Hop on the coquette ribbon nail art wave with these ultra-thin black bows painted right where a French tip would normally begin. This bejeweled look leaves a lot room for creativity, as you can swap the gem color for another hue or choose to rock gemstone hearts on all ten nails.

These black-to-gray ombré French nails have hints of purple glitter at each tip, making it look like you have a galaxy on your nails. Take cues from the Barbie girl herself, Margot Robbie, and try some hot pink French tips (though the unique angles would be all your own). Give your go-to French manicure a pretty-in-pink makeover, with pearls lining every single tip.

Top them off with shimmery polish and line the cuticles with 3D pastel flowers, and you’ve got a mani that’s sure to turn heads. But you can have an even cooler look by simply using two shades of blue for your nail tips. This cute take on the French manicure will have all your friends wearing it once they see it on you.

If this is a dilemma you face every holiday season, try the above playful take on the French manicure that makes each nail look like a sparkly holiday bauble. You could make each the same color, or give them different sparkly shades if you really want to stand out. So get yourself a set of neon french tip nails for that fun pop of color for your mani. Ha, just kidding but this is totally a fun little way to do your french manicure (with some cute pastel colors). There are no rules when it comes to crafting your heart nail art. This look features solid red nails on every other finger, while the remaining digits contain swirly lines of pink, red, and white, finished with a tiny white heart.

Trusted by teams at

Don’t get us wrong — web design is still a massively booming industry. With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing businesses of all sizes to pay more attention to their internet presence, there’s never been a greater call for web designers to do what they do best. With a single subscription, you can make a website, host your content, register your own custom domain name, sell products, track your site’s analytics, and much more. Easily upload videos, design lessons, and offer students the best online learning experience. Even if you would prefer to work with your own design, you can often do so using drag-and-drop functions, usually from a downloaded design with an in-built framework. This can allow you to create a professional-looking website without having to learn programming or coding at all.

Dorik’s excellent free tier lets you create an attractive, SEO-friendly website in just a matter of minutes—no coding required. You simply select a template, customize the interactive UI elements, and add your images, text, or video. If you want cool features and perks, such as custom domains and membership bonuses, check out a Dorik premium subscription (starting at $48 per year).

The free version has Wix branding, limited storage space and bandwidth, but move up to the most popular plan (unlimited) and there’s no Wix ads. If you want to buy and sell on your site and have little to no coding experience, Weebly is a great alternative to Wix. When we reviewed it, we found its drag-and-drop tools for site creation even easier than Wix's.

Another reason I love it is because it provides the opportunity to centralize feedback. If you use the free version, you get three Sigma and 3 FigJam files, as well as unlimited personal files, collaborators, templates, a mobile app, and plugin use. If you'd like to add a custom domain name without the WordPress tag at the end, this is also locked behind the paywall. If you're starting to see a (non-WordPress) theme here, you're not the only one. Most of the good stuff on WordPress is premium-only, but you can still build a workable starter website for free.

Heavy rock is one of my favorite genres and I’ve been obsessed with the Alan Wake 2 soundtrack for the past few months. The guitar riffs in ‘Herald of Darkness’ by Old Gods of Asgard really came to life when I listened to the song on the ATH-SQ1TW. The earbuds also do a good job of balancing the different voices and instruments in the song.

These features were incorporated into the MIDI Show Control (MSC) specification, an open communications protocol for interacting with diverse devices. The first show to fully utilize the MSC specification was the Magic Kingdom Parade at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in September 1991. MIDI and digital audio technology have contributed to the evolution of sound production techniques in the 1980s and 1990s.

Give MGMT’s ‘Little Dark Age’ a spin and you’ll see what I mean. I noticed every note in the song’s funky bassline, which I’m desperately trying to learn on my bass — perhaps the clarity these earbuds provide will propel my progress. For the purpose of this review, I listened to a playlist on Spotify Premium, which is one of the best music streaming services, on my Google Pixel 7 Pro with the standard SBC codec. I was delighted to find that the sound quality was consistent across all songs. When I first put the ATH-SQ1TW earbuds in, I said aloud, “These sound sooo good.” It wasn’t like one song sounded tinny and distant while another sounded perfect.

This includes even super cheap earbuds such as the JLab JBuds Mini ($39) and Skullcandy Dime 3 ($29), which offer SBC and AAC codec support. Mixers is an Emmy-winning post-production sound studio for TV and film. In 2001 and 2008 the studio received a Primetime Emmy Award for Sound Mixing. Implementation might require software or electrical engineering of the systems that modify sound or process user input. In interactive applications, a sound designer often collaborates with an engineer (e.g. a sound programmer) who's concerned with designing the playback systems and their efficiency. For example, most computational resources are usually devoted to graphics. Audio production should account for computational limits for sound playback with audio compression or voice allocating systems.

We experiment with, and develop new technologies to allow more time to focus on the creative process. Our award-winning sound studios in Los Angeles are second to none. We designed our stages to be comfortable to work in all day and sometimes all night! We have a total of three facilities located in Van Nuys (half the facility is actually in Sherman Oaks), Burbank, and Santa Clarita on the SCS Studios lot. However, the most significant investment you’ll be making is in regards to software, plugins and sound effects libraries. For example, you’ll need to get yourself equipped with the proper equipment, software and sound effects libraries.

But the budget earbuds market feels quite overcrowded, and to earn a spot amongst the best cheap wireless earbuds, companies can’t afford to lose points by leaving out popular features such as ANC, wear detection, and companion apps. Along with our comprehensive sound services, including re-recording and ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) to ensure you are completely thrilled with the final product. Interactivity with computer sound can involve using a variety of playback systems or logic, using tools that allow the production of interactive sound (e.g. Max/MSP, Wwise).

Sound Design Corporation specializes in digital audio post-production. This company has worked with many famous stand-up comics including George Carlin, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, and Ricky Gervais, and produced sound for their specials. Post Production Creative Services offer sound design services for motion pictures, television, gaming, streaming, and various emerging media. Regardless of what you make of it, sound design is the process of creating, manipulating, and organizing sounds to enhance the production value of an audiovisual work. Simply take them out of their case and you’ll see a notification pop up on your Android or iOS device.

In addition, software innovation has enabled sound designers to take more of a DIY (or "do-it-yourself") approach. From the comfort of their home and at any hour, they can simply use a computer, speakers and headphones rather than renting (or buying) costly equipment or studio space and time for editing and mixing. This provides for faster creation and negotiation with the director. This is because sometimes there exists a difference in interests between composers and electronic musicians or sound designers. The latter specialises in electronic music techniques, such as sequencing and synthesizers, but the former is more experienced in writing music in a variety of genres.

n design

There are other forms of small-N designs and many variations within each category of design. Identifying which design is the best fit for a particular research question or context depends on many factors. They can be useful in the early developmental phase of research as well as in refining the application of research findings to individual patients. While we fully understand the arguments in favor of such models, to us, many of the published examples of their use have tended to obscure rather than to emphasize the quality of the fits at the individual level. However, our ultimate goal throughout this article is not to criticize these or any other particular methods, but to highlight that psychology is not a homogeneous discipline. The lesson is that a common feature of small-N methods, and the increased power and precision of inference they offer, is only realizable in data-rich environments.

In this form of replication, participants are matched as closely as possible on subject characteristics. The aim is to establish, as clearly as possible, that a given intervention can have an effect on a certain kind of patient within a specific setting. If a series of direct replication small-N studies produces consistently positive results, then the replication process moves to the next level. The figure is adapted from Carey and Matyas’ study17 on direct and transfer effects of stimulus-specific training on joint proprioception in five patients with stroke.

Methodology

The second level of replication involves the systematic replication of the treatment across various participants, settings, clinicians, or a combination of these. Systematic replication helps to establish the generality of the findings over a wider range of situations than does direct replication. The final strategy of replication identified by Barlow and Hersen34 is clinical replication. Clinical replication involves establishing the generality of related components of the intervention.

However, every clinician does have a responsibility to document the services they provide and changes in patient performance related to the person’s individual rehabilitation goals. 5Downsampling (of a larger sample) is typically used in bootstrapping when comparing two samples of unequal size (Racine et al., 2014); here, we applied downsampling to increase the variability of the individual distributions. This, of course, is the well-known interaction effect in a standard 2 × 2 ANOVA.

As a corollary to this interpretation, we might expect that the areas of psychology that were slowest in taking advantage of Fisher’s methodological innovations would be those in which the replication crisis is now deepest. An experimenter who runs a small number of participants probably does so in the expectation of finding a high degree of interparticipant agreement, as is often found in sensory science, animal learning studies, and some areas of cognitive neuroscience. However, in situations like the one in our simulation in which there is appreciable heterogeneity in the underlying population, the expected consistency is unlikely to eventuate, or not completely.

The effect of increasing N on the individual- and group-level analyses

We then used model selection (i.e., a G2 test) to determine whether the more general model fit significantly better than the constrained model. The key strengths of the AB design are its applicability to almost any clinical setting or problem, as well as its simplicity in evaluating whether changes occurred in the outcome following the transition from baseline to intervention. The basic design in this classification involves an AB structure, wherein “A” represents the baseline (non-treatment) phase and “B” refers to the intervention phase.

One method estimated the size of the interaction effect using weighted linear regression. Here we also estimated the power using the proportion of bootstrapped samples which had a significant effect. The other method was to fit a log-normal distribution to the data using maximum likelihood estimation. We fit a general model, in which the interaction term was allowed to be non-zero, and a constrained model, which forced the interaction term to zero.

We conducted additional simulations in which we increased the sample N (see Fig. 2). As N increases, the power of the group-level analysis increases as expected, but it is only at large levels of N that the group-level analysis is comparable to the individual-level analysis. We would further note that at large N, the group-level analysis continues to obscure qualitative individual differences in the level of the effect. Furthermore, the group-level analysis provides no indication of the effect size at the individual level, which, by contrast, the individual-level analysis captures as its primary focus. For each bootstrapped set of N simulated participants, we averaged the data for each participant in each of the factorial conditions and conducted a 2 × 2 ANOVA.
